STUTZMAN’S GUITAR CENTER - A FAMILY BUSINESS SINCE 1952
Stutzman’s Guitar Center was started by Eldon Stutzman who conducted business from his house on a by-appointment basis at first, the business moved to a small store on Jay Street in Rochester in 1964. As his collection grew to nearly one thousand instruments it became apparent that Eldon’s hobby was growing into a successful business. The Jay Street store, crowded with instruments, was open Saturdays only; repairs and most of the inventory remained at his Spencerport home. The popularity of folk and acoustic music during the 1960’s created great demand, and Eldon Stutzman soon gained a national reputation for honesty, selection, and expert customizing and repair.

Eldon’s son Dave began working as an apprentice in this father’s business in 1964. David has owned and managed the business since the elder Stutzman’s death in 1976. In 1977, the shop moved to its present location in a 200 year old building on the West side of Rochester and Dave’s new bride, Margaret, was welcomed into the business. In 1985, Dave’s brother Richard joined as an instrument repairman, keeping the family tradition alive.

In the fall of 1989, a major remodeling of the entire building was finished giving much-needed room for a larger showroom, workshop and teaching studios. Stutzman’s Guitar Center has been featured in articles in several national music magazines. We have also provided expert advice and consultation to American and foreign manufacturers on subjects such as guitar bracing and design. Our years of experience, combined with a large instrument selection, fair prices, generous trade-in allowances, expert repair, customizing services, and a genuine interest in every customer has built astounding customer loyalty. When you do business with us, we will do our best to not only meet, but to exceed your expectations. We would love to help you find the right instrument to fit your needs, whether you’re a beginner, part-time player, or professional performer.
